NPSWU Stands Firm on Labour Wage Negotiations – Collective Demands Update

The NPSWU, alongside other unions, is engaged in ongoing wage negotiations with the employer, advocating for fair conditions and benefits for public servants. Here’s a summary of our key demands and the employer’s current position:

  1. Death Grant

A committee will be formed to explore payment modalities for the death grant to employees who pass away in the line of duty. The current death grant payments will remain unaffected.

  1. Childcare & Breastfeeding Facilities

The PSCBC will research the readiness of departments to establish childcare and breastfeeding facilities in line with the Department of Social Development’s guidelines.

  1. Recruitment Policy

A committee will review recruitment practices in the public service, with union representatives granted observer status.

  1. Bursary Scheme

A funding model for the children of public servants in higher education will be developed to support those in the “missing middle” bracket.

  1. Uniform Policy

A review of the uniform policy will be conducted to ensure adequate and standardized provision for public service workers.

  1. Housing Allowance

The housing allowance will increase from R1,784.55 to R1,900.00 in 2025/26, with future adjustments based on CPI.

  1. Salary Adjustment

A 5.5% pensionable salary increase for employees in salary levels 1-12, including OSD, for the 2025/26 financial year.

  1. Projected CPI Capped

The Projected CPI will be capped between 4% and 6% to provide salary adjustment predictability.

  1. Government Employees Housing Scheme (GEHS)

The GEHS consultative committee will fast-track the implementation of housing services, with a target date of 30 September 2025.

  1. Medical Aid Subsidy

Medical aid subsidies will increase by MPI in 2025/26, with additional increases in subsequent years.

  1. Danger Allowance

Danger Allowance will increase to R650.00 in 2025/26, with future annual increases linked to CPI.

  1. Special Danger Allowance

Special Danger Allowance will increase to R950.00 in 2025/26, with future annual CPI-based adjustments.

  1. Service Allowance for Police

Police service allowances will increase to R950.00 in 2025/26, with CPI-based adjustments from 2026/27.
